WiseMotion retreat in Turkey

Join Six Senses Kaplankaya from October 2 to 6 for a soulful WiseMotion retreat with Doctor Hanna Poikonen. It’s based on a method which combines physical movement, meditation and neuroscience.

After a busy summer, would you welcome a few days of self-care? Why not join us at our state-of-the-art wellness facilities overlooking the breathtaking Aegean Sea in Turkey. The WiseMotion retreat is based on the latest neuroscientific knowledge and designed to improve brain health, holistic well-being and physical abilities.

The WiseMotion method is developed by Dr. Hanna Poikonen. She is a neuroscientist, dancer and movement specialist, and holds a PhD in the neuroscience of movement, dance and music (Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki, Finland).

WiseMotion workshops promote concentration, stress-reduction, sleep, creativity and embodied communication. In addition, physical abilities such as joint and muscle dynamics, relaxation and balance are improved. During the neuroscientific presentation, Dr. Hanna Poikonen clarifies the content using practical examples and connects the latest scientific discoveries to everyday life. During conversations, you’ll deepen your knowledge about the topic of the workshop, based on the personal experiences of the participants and the neuroscientific approach.

“Dr. Poikonen’s guidance was so gentle and inspiring, providing a very relaxed environment. Focusing ‘just’ on the body, it felt like I’d been to a sanctuary after the class. It’s just what we all need to find our way back to our own body! Highly recommended,” says Yvonne, an integrated energy practitioner.

Dr. Hanna Poikonen has worked for five years at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) in brain research and education focusing on the fields of prolonged pain, intelligence and creativity. She has studied movement and meditation in cities such as New York (Gibney Dance, Movement Research), Barcelona (La Caldera, Institut del Teatre), Montreal (Circuit-Est Centre Chorégraphique) and Berlin (Marameo). Explorations in kung fu, tai chi, butoh and somatic methods have taught her a holistic approach to the body and mind.

She has toured with WiseMotion worldwide in institutions, festivals and wellness centers such as Harvard Medical School (USA), Gibney Dance (New York City), Swissotel Berlin (Germany), Kuopio Dance Festival (Finland), Joint Dynamics (Hong Kong), and Institut del Teatre (Barcelona).

What to expect during the retreat:

  • Morning Meditation & Movement

In the morning, we gently wake up the body, mind and breath. From calmness, we advance to the wide stretching movement accompanied by the breath. We strengthen the most important muscles which support the healthy body posture and find the balance to create smooth and harmonic movement. After the practice, we are aware and awake to enjoy the beautiful day. Over the retreat, we deepen a breath and movement routine. We get instructions how take the practice with us when returning home to maintain a dynamic body and the optimal brain functions.

  • The WiseMotion workshop series

Together with the introduction and the conclusions, three workshops of Emotions in the Body and Brain, Concentration, Memory, and the Brain, and Sleep and Calming Down the Brain form a series to understand the brain in cognition and emotion. We gain a versatile understanding of how stress violates the body and the brain, and how to release stress and recharge energy. We learn meditation and movement practices to enhance memory, concentration emotional health and creativity, and understand these processes in the brain. Importantly, we understand the value of sleep and proper rest as a base for a healthy and energetic life. At the end, we learn how to apply meditation and movement practice to regain and maintain the holistic health and brain potential.
