Over the last few years, we have learned a few things pivotal to the health of our brain: one of them being that our brain receives nourishment from the foods we eat on a daily basis. Our Eat With Six Senses approach to food and drink focuses on boosting your brainpower through colorful fruit and leafy vegetables, good fats, delicious herbs and even a bit of dark chocolate.
Make room for mushrooms
The amount of scientific research published on mushrooms has exploded recently. It turns out that mushrooms hold the power to support the immune system, blood sugar balance, brain health, liver health, respiratory health, hormone balance, and can even boost energy levels.
All Six Senses properties cultivate their own organic vegetable garden, and two resorts – Six Senses Ninh Van Bay and Six Senses Yao Noi – manage their own mushroom huts. You can meet with Executive Chef Walter at Six Senses Yao Noi to pick mushrooms and discuss a special meal request. Wild mushroom tagliatelle? Not a problem. Pickled oyster mushrooms? Coming right up.
Make friends with gut buddies
Naturally fermented food and beverages are also getting a lot of attention from health experts. They are packed full of magical microorganisms that boost the diversity of the good bacteria (gut buddies) living in our guts. From kefir, kimchi and kombucha to sauerkraut and miso: all fermented foods are in full flow across our restaurants.
Drinking the occasional glass of organic red wine, which contains polyphenol compounds, can also be good for taking care of your gut microbial community. The take-home message is that a little goes a long way and you can get the same health benefits from low-alcohol wine.
Make merry with many
Research from the University of Oxford reveals the importance of not just what you eat but who you eat it with. Eating together plays a key role in social bonding and the development of community life – as well as the happiness and well-being of individuals within that community. The act of talking and listening also slows down the eating process, improving digestion. Across Six Senses properties eating is a social occasion.
