Cultural Cambodia

by posted in NEWS

Six Senses Krabey Island will welcome its first guests from March 1, weaving Cambodian traditions into its cuisine and signature spa treatments, and supporting local Khmer communities. Why not come and join in the fun?

Our private island features 40 pool villas and a two-bedroom beach retreat, with green living roofs, sun decks with infinity plunge pools and rain showers. Menus at the AHA Restaurant and Tree Restaurant focus on quality local produce and seasonality, with seafood a specialty. Dishes offer a contemporary twist on traditional Khmer cuisine as well as creative interpretations of pan-Asian and international favorites.

Culinary creations

Go on your own culinary adventure, starting in the resort’s 10-arce (4-hectare) market farm and Earth Lab, where you can learn about the sustainability actions taking place to support the island’s environmental vision. Then roll your sleeves up and put the homegrown ingredients to good use as you master the art of preparing Khmer dishes in cooking classes, guided by our talented chefs.

Spa remedies

The expansive Six Senses Spa Krabey Island is inspired by the sacred Khmer Kbal Spean River and integrates knowledge from Cambodian communities into its signature spa treatments together with endemic produce and ingredients. This maintains a closer and more sustainable connection with local traditions. Create your own natural skin care products and essential oils at the Alchemy Bar while learning the secrets of Kru Khmer traditional remedies that have been passed down through families.

The Khmer-inspired herbal steam sauna or chupong is a great way to start any spa treatment. Local herbs are used to clear skin impurities and improve circulation throughout the body to relax your muscles, calm your mind and give your complexion a healthy glow. Alternatively, enjoy a Khmer foot massage in the waiting area before your treatment for some additional pre-treatment relaxation.

Experience highlights

Watery highlights for guests include fishing, snorkeling and boat excursions. On land there’s the open-air Cinema Paradiso and night sky observatory – depending on which type of stars you prefer. For younger guests, “The Nest” kids’ club welcomes children between 4 and 12 years of age and offers a host of activities through our Grow With Six Senses initiative.

Environmental and social responsibility

Six Senses plays a proactive role outside the resort too, assisting in tropical marine conservation by coral propagation and sea-plant growth to support the endangered marine ecosystem. We also support programs and nearby villages and participate in outreach and development activities to introduce sustainable practices within local Khmer communities.

Six Senses Krabey Island is located three miles (five kilometers) off Ream National Park in southern Cambodia. From Sihanouk International Airport, it is a 10-minute drive to the resort’s mainland reception where guests board a sports cruiser for the short fifteen-minute crossing to the island.
